I first had the idea several years ago and finally put the Crest & Pedigree in an art format that would display each of The American Kennel Club's Top ranked most popular dog breeds. I hand paint the crest with bright watercolors which depict the colors of the flag of the country of origin of the breeds. For example, a Beagle has a British heritage, and therefore I painted the Crest in the colors of the Union Jack, red white & blue. The originals are then reproduced by a local Nashville printer on to a heavy bond, suitable for matting and framing.
We have put a watermark "Tailbones" over the front of the Crest for copyright protection, but the ordered Crests will not show this.
As there are several hundred pure dog breeds recognized by the AKC, we have started with the Top 16 dog breeds, and are working on the next group. We hope to get interested dog lovers to request their particular dog breed, so we can include them, even if they are far down the list. We will use the proceeds of this artwork for dog rescue, locally and nationally. Locally in Lynchburg, Tennessee, we are working to raise funds for the first dog rescue facility in the county. My sister, Tracey, is the founder of Animal Rescue Aid, who supplies dog beds for dog shelters all over the country, so while the dogs are awaiting rescue, they are comfortably suspended above the cold concrete floor. Incorporating my love of artwork and dogs has given me the best of both worlds, and hopefully by you purchasing my dog Crests, we can make a difference in their quality of life.
